So when I came across this little tool from Hayk An for styling interfaces on Sidebar the other day, my first thought was, Is this the future of interface design? You just twiddle a handful of variables and call it a day?

On further reflection though, of course there’s still plenty of room for critical thinking and creativity in interface design, but I do think that this kind of thing might signal a shift in some spheres to a more scientific methodology. In fact, I spend a lot of time in my classes encouraging students to take a more considered, rational, and systematic approach to their designs, and this is a actually a great example of how far that can go. Really, I admire the thinking here a lot.
